The Myth That Rolling Your Foot On A Ball Will Help You Fix Plantar Fasciitis

Your plantar fasciitis won't be fixed simply by rolling your foot on a ball!

It can be extremely painful and debilitating to suffer from plantar fasciitis.

Rolling your foot on a ball or using a frozen water bottle underneath your arch is an exercise I see prescribed quite often.

It is not my intention to harm anyone with this exercise. You will benefit from this exercise, I am not saying that. You could, however, roll your foot 24 hours a day for 7 days and still be in pain and have plantar fasciitis.

In spite of the fact that this exercise can give you relief in your heel and arch, plantar fasciitis is much more complicated than just a muscle/tendon that needs to be rolled out.

If the majority of these factors are not addressed, plantar fasciitis will not resolve.

Among these factors are:

  • Weight gain or loss suddenly
  • Activity-related footwear
  • Flexibility and range of motion of the ankles
  • Flexibility and strength of the calf
  • The pattern of walking
  • A good foot posture
  • An overview of injury and medical history
  • Job requirements and occupation
  • The current level of activity and the level of activity over the past three months
  • The mechanics of the foot
  • The age

Understanding that plantar fasciitis may be caused by multiple factors is the key to treating it. You have a better chance of treating your plantar fasciitis and preventing it from recurring if you address as many factors as possible.
