Plantar warts are not harmful inherently, but they may cause some irritation or pain, or some minor bleeding, as your weight exerts constant pressure on the area. Because of this pressure, the skin becomes thick and callused.

How Are Viruses Transmitted?

The strains of HPV that cause plantar warts are different from those that cause genital warts, so some people who come into contact with HPV do not develop warts.

HPV thrives in warm, moist environments such as swimming pools and locker rooms. In addition to causing warts where the virus enters the skin, it can spread to other sites, causing new warts to appear.

How Do Plantar Warts Appear And Feel?

The following are likely symptoms of plantar warts:

• Small, fleshy, and rough, it is typically found on the heels, toes, or forefoot
• Growths on the skin that cross the normal lines and ridges of the skin
• A hard callus has formed over the wart on the foot
• As a result of their small size and clotted nature, black spots are called "wart seeds".
• It is possible to experience pain or tenderness when standing or walking

What Is the Treatment for Plantar Warts?

In most cases, warts will disappear without treatment after two years, but if they are painful or irritating, they may need to be removed.

It takes months to see significant results with home remedies such as banana peels, duct tape, and freezing sprays.

It is much more effective to receive treatment in a doctor's office. Dr. Roohian uses the following methods:

A chemical that contains trichloroacetic acid and an acid that contains salicylic acid

Doctors use prescription-strength salicylic acid to dissolve warts. If you do not respond to the trichloroacetic acid treatment after a series, Dr. Roohian may use stronger trichloroacetic acid. Often, this method involves a series of treatments in which the acid triggers your immune system to fight the infection.

Treatment with infrared rays

With this procedure, warts are frozen off with liquid nitrogen, which destroys their structure and causes them to blister.
