Painful Foot Problems Common Amongs Women

Due to a variety of factors, females are more vulnerable to certain foot problems than men. From genetics to weight to habitual walking in high heels, women face many different risks due to their gender.

Foot Injuries Among Women

It is known that a woman's smaller foot may help her bear the weight of her body, as there are several anatomical differences between men's and women's feet. Women are also at higher risk of osteoporosis later in life, which causes the bones in the feet to bend or break with very little force.

Among female patients, the following are the most common causes of foot injury:

  • Footwear. The wearing of fashionable footwear for long periods of time can also lead to foot trauma for men, but women are far more likely to suffer from conditions such as bunions, ingrown toenails, and neuromas.
  • Nail care. Foot problems can result from trimming and painting toenails, including fungal nail infections and wounds that take a long time to heal.
  • Sports and swimming injuries. If active women overexert themselves in a new exercise regime, they may suffer forefoot fractures or ankle sprains. Gym members are also at risk for plantar warts or athlete's foot from wearing barefoot in the locker rooms, saunas, or pools.
  • Pregnancy. During pregnancy, weight gain and hormonal changes can lead to foot, leg, and ankle problems. We can treat flat feet and heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis with our intervention.

We can help you with a skin problem, a toenail problem, or if you are suffering from an injury that requires immediate attention.
